Brief: On 1 July 2021, road vehicle type approvals were introduced when the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 (RVSA) replaced the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989 (MVSA). Motor vehicles assess to Australia must comply with the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) required by the RVSA 2018.
VEHICLE TYPE APPROVAL (VTA)
According to the RVS legislation, before road vehicles can be provided to another person for road use in Australia for the first time, they must be granted the Vehicle Type Approval and entered on the Register of Approved Vehicles (RAV).
AUSTRALIA DESIGN RULES (ADRs)
Motor vehicles entering Australia want to be granted Vehicle Type Approvals, they must meet the national standards covering safety and emission requirements known as the Australian Design Rules (ADRs), and submit ADR test reports or equivalent certificates and reports and other supporting documentations.
