The United States Department of Transportation, abbreviated DOT, is headquartered in Washington. As the functional department of the US government, the US Department of Transportation develops and improves transportation and transportation-related regulations to meet environmental and national defense needs. The Department of Transportation is also a basic department of the federal government, responsible for formulation and management to protect and improve the safety, appropriateness and effectiveness of transportation system. According to the regulations of the US Department of Transportation, where vehicles and critical components are exported to the US market, they must pass DOT certification and mark the corresponding DOT mark on the product. The product has passed the DOT certification and is marked with the corresponding mark, indicating that the product meets the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) and has passed the corresponding test or manufacturer's statement. Traction battery as component is not covered by FMVSS, but for US market whole vehicle manufactures may request traction battery fulfills SAE, SAND, UL, etc. standards.
Regulation:
SAE J1797, SAE J1798, SAE J2464, SAE J2380, SAE J2929, SAND2005-3123, UL 2580

Compulsory acts and regulations stipulate that any motor vehicle entering the South Korean market must be certified by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT), Ministry of Environmental Protection (MoE) and Ministry of Industry (MoI) through certification scheme of safety, environmental protection and fuel consumption. For electric vehicles, the Appraisal Tests, which is regulated by MoE is required. The MoE of the Republic of Korea subsidizes the models that have passed the test. The amount of subsidies varies according to the policies.
A person who intends to manufacture, assemble or import a motor vehicle (including the incomplete motor vehicle and the motor vehicle manufactured by phase) shall self-authenticate that the model of the relevant motor vehicle meets the safety standards (Korea Motor Vehicle Safety Standard - KMVSS) for motor vehicles (in cases of an incomplete motor vehicle or a motor vehicle manufactured by phase, referring to the safety standards for motor vehicles to be applied as at the time when a manufacture, etc. concerned is finished), as determined by Ordinance of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.
According to KMVSS traction battery shall be tested in accordance with KMVSS Article 18-3 and the test procedure KMVSS TP 48. At the same time, for certain category vehicles their Lithium-ion traction batteries must obtain KS R1204 test report during MoE certification and Subsidy application.
Standard:
KMVSS 18.3, KMVSS TP 48
KMVSS 18.3, KMVSS TP 48
Test Items:
Drop test, Immersion test, Fire resistance, Over-temperature protection, Short circuit test, Overcharge test, Over-discharge test, Vibration test, Thermal shock test, Overcurrent test, Mechanical Test

CMVR is the abbreviation of Central Motor Vehicles Rules. Its standard committee is called CMVR-TSC (CMVR-Technical Standing Committee) and belongs to the Indian Ship, Road Traffic and Highway Administration. Since 1991, the CMVR regulations stipulate that motor vehicles and their systems and components must be approved according to the CMVR regulations before entering the Indian market. The tests includes Safety, Emissions and the type approval process includes Factory Audit, Type Testing and Conformity of Production (CoP).
As the designated technical service agency of ARAI, ATIC conducts regular technical exchange with ARAI and provides manufacturers with one-stop Indian CMVR vehicle and component type approval service.
Standard:
AIS 038 Rev 2 (coming soon)
AIS 048 (to be cancelled)
Test Items:
Vibration test, Mechanical Shock, Mechanical integrity, Thermal shock and cycling test, Fire resistance, Over- temperature protection, Thermal Propagation Test, External short circuit protection, Overcharge, Over-discharge protection, Over current test
Procedure:
Application, sample test, test report issuance

Chapter 38.3 of Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods - Manual of Tests and Criteria (referred to as UN38.3) provides detailed regulations for the transport of hazardous materials in lithium metal and lithium ion batteries. The UN38.3 test simulates transportation conditions, such as pressure, temperature, extrusion, impact, etc., and is respectively called the T1 to T8 test.
As of January 1, 2019, the 6th revised edition of Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods - Manual of Tests and Criteria has become effective (Rev. 6 and -/ Amend.1). Cells, battery cells, single-cell batteries, cells as components (cells that are not shipped separately), and battery packs have different test requirements and different sample requirements.
