The National Bureau of Standards of Nigeria is the national government agency responsible for the development and implementation of quality standards for imported and domestically manufactured products in the country. SONCAP (Standards Organization of Nigeria Conformity Assessment Program) is a group that applies to conformity assessment and certification procedures for certain categories of regulated products imported into Nigeria. SONCAP was officially implemented on December 1, 2005.
SONCAP consists of two phases: the first phase is called “Product Conformity Verification” which is only applicable to the first export of a specific category of regulated products in Nigeria. The second phase is called “the Standards Organization of Nigeria Mandatory Conformity Assessment Procedures” which applies to a batch of pre-shipment products.
