THE UPDATES OF NEW REGULATION (EU) 2021/535 REGARDING GENERAL VEHICLE CONSTRUCTION

Brief: European Union laid down the Regulation (EU) 2021/535 as regards the general construction characteristics and safety, on 31 March 2021 for the application of Regulation (EU) 2019/2144, which will update and integrate the current nearly ten (EU) regulations of (EU) 19/2011, (EU) 1003/2010, (EU) 1008/2010, Nearly ten (EU) 1009/2010, (EU) 672/2010, (EU) 1005/2010, (EU) 109/2011, (EU) 65/2012, (EU) 130/2012 regarding the manufacturer’s statutory plate, space for mounting and fixing rear registration plates, windscreen wiper and washer systems, windscreen defrosting and demisting systems and so on. The new regulation will be officially implemented on July 6, 2022.

ATIC experts interpreted the regulations, identified the key points of the updates, and suggested that the relevant manufacturers keep an eye on the technical requirements changes of the manufacturer’s statutory plate and space for mounting and fixing rear registration plates.



THE CONTENCT OF REGULATORY REVISION
The new regulation (EU) 2021/535 involves the integration of nearly ten regulations, by making the current separate (EU) regulations as the annexes of the new regulations. It should be noted that the mainly technical requirements updating involved in the manufacturer’s statutory plate and space for mounting and fixing rear registration plates, ATIC experts identify the key points of the updates as follows:

2. Update the radius of curvature of the Virtually flat surface of at least 3 000 mm 
3. Requirement of the front and rear plate is as follows:
 3.1. Holes or gaps if have in the surface to be covered by plate, shall be no more than 75 mm in height rather than 40mm;
 3.2. Vertical transverse plane: height of the upper edge of the plate is changed from  not more than 1.2m to 1.5 m;
 3.3. The lower edge of plate from the ground surface is changed from not less than 0.3m to not less than 0.1m for the front plate and 0.2m for the rear plate; height of the upper edge of the plate is changed from  not more than 1.2m to 1.5 m;
 3.4. In Geometrical visibility, height of the upper edge of the plate from the ground surface is changed from not more than 1.2m to 1.5 m;
